I have both in my UpLib repository (and music, photos, video, scanned
papers, PDFs, Powerpoint, etc.) There are separate input streams coming
in from various sources -- my mail despooler puts a copy of every
message into the archive, and UpLib separates out attachments and stores
them as separate documents, both linked to, and linked from, the UpLib
version of the mail message.
