It is indeed interesting, particularly the point about GC.  Thanks for
forwarding it.

I wonder if the solution isn't something like considering deletion as an
action, instead of a failure to act: that the leases might be some
signed tree of verifycaps which can be replaced with a new set when you
mutate a file or change the set of rootcaps.  Then you can have some
friends whom you trust to do redundant lease renewals.  There would be
ways to do it untrusted as well, but it's nice to have a model of "I've
got your back if / because you've got mine."

Do let me know if I misunderstand things.
